What Can I Do To Improve My BCM Competency and Skill?
Being competent as an Organization BCM Coordinator is not about knowing only business
continuity. The assumption we are making is that you have attended a business continuity management (BCM) course.
Once this is completed, you may want to consider the ancillary skill set, such as crisis management and crisis communication.
Another essential skill set includes the ability to review the BCM program and participate in the IT disaster recovery planning process.
Levels of BCM Competencies
In the BCM Institute, we have three levels of competencies: "Know-Do-Manage." As an Organization BCM Coordinator, you will need to be at the "Manage" level of competency.
With this in mind, the Organization BCM Coordinator can start to plot the different training routes to choose from depending on his/her requirements, schedule, and certification needs.
Other Core Skillsets
Once you have completed the BCM training, you should continue to upgrade your competency to include crisis management and crisis communication. Another core skill is the ability to review and audit a BCM program.
The auditing skill set will also apply to reviewing crisis management and crisis communication plans. Attending the IT disaster planning course will be a good selection for those who are required to work with the IT team and have a strong IT background.
