What is Operational Resilience Body of Knowledge (OR BOK)?

The Operational Resilience Body of Knowledge or OR BoK is an all-inclusive term that describes three domains, OR BoK 1 to BoK 15, within the OR professional training practice. This BCM BoK applies to the two disciplines:  Operational Resilience (OR)  and Operational Resilience Audit (ORA).

It is published as a single document found in BCMPedia.  Not all the BoK needs to be completed or applicable to the six disciplines.

Operational Resilience Body of Knowledge

The Operational Resilience Body of Knowledge (OR BoK) is an all-inclusive term that describes the sum of the body of knowledge within the Operational Resilience (OR) profession.

Since it is usually not possible to put the entire body of knowledge of even a discipline, such as Operational Resilience (OR) and Operational Resilience Audit (ORA), into a single document, there is a need for a comprehensive guide to the OR Body of Knowledge.

The Three OR Domains consists of 15 OR Body of Knowledge (OR BoK)

BoK Plan [P1] BoK Implementer [P2] BoK Sustain [P3]
1 Assess Capability and Maturity 6 Identify Critical Business Services 11 Introduce Cultural  Change Management

3 Develop Strategy Roadmap 8 Set Impact Tolerance 13 Implement Training and Awareness
4 Confirm Risk Appetite 9 Conduct Scenario Testing 14 Provide Self-assessment
5 Develop and Embed Governance 10 Improve Lesson Learnt 15 Conduct Independent Quality Review

Alignment to OR Planning Methodology

To understand more about each phase, read more about the details of the OR Planning Methodology.

It is often argued that some phases within the other OR and ORA disciplines do not apply.  The BCM Institute intends to standardise the implementation across the Operational Resilience (OR) and Operational Resilience Audit (ORA) disciplines.

Integration with Competency Level and Expertise Level

The diagram below provides an overview of how the BCM Body of Knowledge (BoK) is linked with the OR Competency Level (CL) and the Expertise Level (EL).

Operational Resilience Body of Knowledge

The body of knowledge is divided into three domains. In each domain, there are the "Plan, " "Implement, " and "Sustain" phases of the OR planning methodology. In domains P1, P2, and P3, each domain (or phase) is broken down into five stages.  These five stages form the OR Body of Knowledge.
