OR Body of knowledge Vs OR Competency Level

The OR Body of Knowledge or OR BoK is an all-inclusive term that describes the sum of knowledge within the profession of operational resilience.

Since it is usually not possible to put the whole body of knowledge of all of the OR-related disciplines into a single document, there is a need for a Guide to the OR Body of Knowledge (BoK).

This blog explains the inter-relationship between the BoK and the desired competency level.

Body of Knowledge Vs Competency Level

New call-to-action

As our participants are participating in our courses at different levels, we must identify the level of competency that these budding or senior professionals should be pursuing.

This blog explains the inter-relationship between the BoK and the desired competency level.

OR Body of Knowledge (OR BoK)

New call-to-action

This BoK guide deposited in BCMPedia seeks to identify and describe that subset of the body of knowledge that is generally accepted, even though the professionals must be knowledgeable not only in BCM Audit, BCM, CC, CM, DR, OR, or ORA but also, of course, in other related disciplines.

The OR Body of Knowledge or BoK is categorised into BoK 1 to 15.

Competency Level (CL)

Each BoK is further divided into three levels of competency or CL. They are the:

  1. Foundation (leading to "Planner" Level certification);
  2. Intermediate (leading to "Specialist" Level certification); and
  3. Advanced (leading to "Expert" Level certification).

OR Learning Roadmap Know-Do-Manage

Competency Level (CL) is developed upon understanding how potential candidates acquire knowledge.

Level Expertise Competency
1 Know Foundation
2 Do Intermediate
3 Manage Advanced

The Competency Level (CL) is a set of building blocks for BCM Institute's training and certification requirements. Each subject domain is broken into three distinct levels:

  1. Foundation (CL 1)
  2. Intermediate (CL 2)
  3. Advanced (CL 3)

Their breakdown for each of the knowledge domains is as follows:

    Know Do  Manage
Course Type Code Competency Level
Operational Resilience ORA CL 1 OR CL 2 ORA CL 3 OR
Operational Resilience Audit ORA CL 1 ORA CL 2 ORA CL 3 ORA

The arrangement of the tiers represents the increasing specificity and specialization of the Operational Resilience (OR) and Operational Resilience (ORA) skills and knowledge content.
