[Plan] [OR-P1] Embarking the Operational Resilience Journey

What should organizations think of before they start their operational resilience journey?  It is daunting, and setting up the fundamentals like any other successful organisation program you have encountered is essential. Think of this starting stage as the "Plan" phase of an operational resilience planning methodology.

Planning and embarking on the journey to implement the operational resilience (OR) program requires the appointed professional to take stock of what is already available and its maturity to be deployed or aggregated into this program.

You could be from the risk management, operations or business continuity team. You may want to ask yourself what the key components and strategies are required during the on start of this journey.

Embarking Your Operational Resilience Journey

What should organisations consider before they start their operational resilience journey? It is a daunting task, and setting up the fundamentals like any other successful organisational program you have previously participated in is crucial.

The approach to start its operational resilience program is to assess its existing capabilities and related programs as you are not starting a "fresh" project.

The main challenge is that some of the competencies needed for operational resilience may not be in your inventory of expertise as they are outside your role, jurisdiction, or skillset. Hence, proper research and planning for people and resources should be conducted before the start of this OR initiative.

These are the steps to prepare and "Plan" to start your OR program. The Plan Phase has five "Stages."

The OR BoK # is "Operational Resilience Body of Knowledge #." It is for applicants applying for BCM Institute's OR Specialist and Expert-level certification.
