New call-to-action Demonstrate Your Actual "Practical" Experience and the period you execute these activities for more than one year (Specialist) or three years (Expert)
Understanding Communication Strategy
  • Think of a communication strategy as a roadmap! It guides how an organization shares information to achieve its goals, in this case, building operational resilience (OR).
Internal vs. External Communication
  • Your communication strategy needs to cater to two audiences:

    • Internal Communication: Focuses on keeping employees informed about their roles, team interactions, and customer/service provider communication best practices within the OR program.
    • External Communication: Ensures customers and other external stakeholders understand the organization's commitment to operational resilience and protects the organization's reputation.
The Role of the OR Communication Lead
  • Imagine a dedicated champion for clear communication within your OR program! Here's what this role entails:

    • Develop and execute communication plans for OR initiatives.
    • Collaborate across departments for clear and consistent messaging.
    • Craft engaging content for various channels (email, intranet, presentations).
    • Train staff on OR and their role in maintaining resilience.
    • Stay updated on communication trends and adapt strategies accordingly.
    • Measure communication success and recommend improvements.
    • During disruptions, manage crisis communication strategies and guide business units on effective communication practices.
Building Your Communication Strategy
  • Now, let's get into the nitty-gritty of crafting your strategy! Follow these steps:

    • Identify Stakeholders: Who needs to be informed about OR (employees, management, board, customers, partners)?
    • Craft Clear Messaging: Develop concise messages that emphasize the importance of OR, its benefits, and stakeholder roles. Ensure consistency across channels.
    • Choose Communication Channels: Select the most suitable channels for each audience (newsletters, intranet, email, meetings, dedicated platforms).
    • Establish Regular Communication: Set up regular updates on program progress, best practices, and address stakeholder concerns.
    • Seek Feedback and Encourage Dialogue: Create opportunities for stakeholders to provide feedback and participate in discussions about OR.

By demonstrating your understanding of these communication principles and the designated OR communication lead's roles, you'll convince the certification reviewers of your ability to foster a culture of transparency and engagement through effective communication.  So, go forth and communicate with confidence!
