[BL-DR-3] [M2] Module 2 of DRP-5000 IT DR Expert Implementer [BL-DR-5]

Below is the detailed course curriculum and objective of Module 2 of both the DRP-300 and the DRP-5000 course.  In this module, participant is expected to walk though a practicum to complete IT risk assessment and application impact analysis.  The walkthrough in session 2 includes the introduction of IT DR strategy and the IT DR plan.

 

It details how each day of the course would allow the participants to have a systematic understanding of the DR concepts and its implementation and how they can prepare for the Qualifying Disaster Recovery Certified Specialist (DRCS) / Qualifying Disaster Recovery Certified Expert (DRCE) examination upon completion of the 2 for DRCS or 4 modules for DRCE course.

Description of Module (Day 2) Course 

IC_BL-DR-3_Mod2Module 2 of Blended Learning is similar to the content of Day 2 of the brick-and-mortar or onsite course. It aims to provide the student with hands-on experience using customized templates, analyzing and evaluating risk from a DR perspective, identifying and developing the DR strategy, the technical considerations for DR strategy, the selection of DR vendors, and engaging the vendor via a request for proposal.

  • Understand the risk assessment process and its key concepts
  • Identify natural and man-made threats to IT and infrastructure

  • Justify and recommend control measures and safeguards

Identify the Impacts to Business Due to a Disaster

  • Identify business processes

Identify the Technical Considerations for DR Strategy

  • Able to identify data backup and data protection strategies
  • Set consideration for strategy selection for various platforms
  • Walk-through the use of data protection and recovery strategy
  • Understand cost benefit versus data availability and lower RPO

Develop DR Strategies

  • Different alternate site recovery strategies
  • Evaluate the cost and benefits of each strategy.
  • New and emerging technologies with possible solutions for recovering operations using these technologies.
  • Develop an overall enterprise-wide strategy based on the collection of disparate technology recovery strategies.

Select DR Services

This lesson teaches participants what to consider when engaging external DR service providers.
  • Identify resources to be provided and vendor support
  • Identify and select cloud providers
  • Learn to select a DR consultant

Establish a DR Plan

One of the first tasks in a DR project is to establish the structure of the DR plan. This session will walk through the key considerations for doing this and what should form the contents of the DR plan.
  • Establish the key DR plan documentation activities
  • Identify plan contents and structure
  • Define specific objectives of the DR plan
  • Implement the steps to complete the sections of the DR plan
  • Apply actions to minimize or recover from a disaster
