[BL-DR-3] [M1] Module (Day) 1 of DRP-5000 IT DR Expert Implementer [BL-DR-5]

Below is the detailed course curriculum of Day 1 of DRP-300 and also DRP-5000 course.

 

It details how each day of the course would allow the participants to have a systematic understanding of the DR concepts and its implementation and how they can prepare for the Qualifying Disaster Recovery Certified Expert (DRCE) examination upon completion of the 4 modules of the course.

For Blended Learning (BL) BL-DR-3, you are required to complete a validated project work for the final assessment if you are completing the DRP-300 Blended Learning consisting of Module 1 and Module 2 only.

Description of Module [Day] 1 Course 

BL-DR-5 M1 Course Requirement IT DRP-5000Day or Module 1 provides a grounding of the IT Disaster Recovery (ITDR) planning knowledge domain.  It helps standardise the terminology and the processes to implement this as a project. 

IC_BL-DR-5_Module1 Considerations in IT DR planning and implementation are discussed, as is the establishment of a project steering committee.  These are the topics discussed:

  • Understand IT DR and BCM Fundamentals
Establish the Need for DR
Understand the inter-relationship with the BCM and CM discipline
Walkthrough the DR Planning Methodology
Prepare the Organization for a DR Project
Identify and Evaluate IT and Infrastructure Risks

Lesson Topic Description
1 Understand IT DR and BCM Fundamentals
Introduces the key concepts of business continuity planning and IT disaster recovery planning, and how they complement each other in building a resilient organisation.
  • DR and BCM fundamentals and concepts
  • Roles and responsibilities of DR professionals
  • International standards pertaining to DR planning for best practice and quality assurance
  • Benefits and success factors when implementing the DR programme
2 Establish the Need for DR
A first step in a DR implementation is to establish the need for DR and get management buy-in.
  • The need and justification for DR implementation
  • Understand what constitutes a disaster in IT DR Planning
  • Difference between an operational disruption issue and an IT disaster
  • Considerations in an IT DR implementation
3 Understand the inter-relationship with the BCM and CM discipline
Defines IT disaster recovery planning (IT DRP), business continuity management (BCM) and crisis management (CM), and describes how IT DRP is implemented in the context of BCM and CM. 
  • Key concepts are explained with examples to illustrate.
  • The value of BCM in today’s organizations, and critical success factors are highlighted for building resilient organizations.
4 Walkthrough the DR Planning Methodology
Describes the DR Planning Methodology and how the various components contribute holistically to the development of a DR Plan.
  • Walkthrough each component of the DR Planning Methodology
  • Understand the relationship and inter-dependencies between IT DRP and BCM
  • Able to elaborate the objectives, key activities and deliverables for each component
5 Prepare the Organization for a DR Project
Before embarking on an IT DR implementation, it is important to prepare and put in place the pieces needed for the project.
  • Resources involved in the IT DR project
  • Key stakeholders or interested parties
  • Project objectives and requirements
  • IT systems prioritization
6 Identify and Evaluate IT and Infrastructure Risks
Introduces key IT disaster recovery metrics to measure the success of the recovery effort.
  • Understand Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO)
  • Introduction to cloud computing
  • Understand Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS)
  • Differentiate traditional DR and cloud DR
