In its simplest form, your organisation is denied of its access to either/or its people, processes or infrastructure.
Crisis Management (CM)
Crisis Management or CM is the overall coordination of an organisation's response to a crisis in a practical, timely manner, intending to avoid or minimise damage to the
organization's profitability, reputation, or ability to operate.
When presented to a layman with no prior training in either BCM or CM area, both definitions will usually result in a "indifferent" to the exact meaning and appear to be similar to any ordinary person in the street.
Just to reinforce, business continuity activation is usually a result of a disaster and crisis management activation is a result of a crisis.
Having explained both terms, it is essential to note that senior management sees it as executing both the crisis management plan and the business continuity plan during a disaster or crisis. Their location is irrelevant to them as long as the organisation's BCM or CM team determines the necessary crisis response and recovery activities following recovery strategies and business continuity plans.
