Running the Risk Assessment

At this stage, your appointed business unit (BU) coordinator is about to attend the first BCM workshop organised in-house. It may be useful if you have not read the first two articles by clicking icons [1A] and [1B] regarding how this project started, you may want to read them so as to understand how a typical project starts. Ignore if you have completed the WSQ_BCM-410 course.

Starting the Project Developing BCM Structure and Framework

This article is the 2nd part of the "HRD Corp Claimable" BCM Training with Project Implementation" series.  This is the reading for participants embarking on a BCM implementation using a combination of HRD Corp Claimable training funding from the Malaysian government with optional consulting to develop, implement and finalize its BCM program for an organisation.

This "Risk Analysis and Review" or "RAR" phase [2nd phase of the BCM planning methodology] involved the "Running a risk assessment" training entails the following steps.

Managing Risk and Review

1. Supplementary Readings

Participants will receive regular emails that direct you to eCampus - BCM Institute's Learning Management System (LMS) and you will be able to view related content similar to what you are reading now.  It contains bite-size pre-reading information on risk analysis and review.

The purpose of doing so is to introduce them to the key concepts ahead of the coming series of 5 more workshops. This helps participants optimize their time at the workshop.

What should participants do before the Online Workshop?

eCampus with the assistance of the guidance notes

2.  Workshop [Online]

BL-B-3 Run2 ZOOM - Copy (2)

A workshop will be conducted to guide project participants to identify, analyse and evaluate their risks. The facilitator will also use this time to explain the more difficult concepts of risk. A set of templates is used to facilitate this process.

Value-Adding Service: eLearning availability is subjected to BCM Institute's agreement with the in-house organization:

For the online workshop, participants will be put through an E-Learning program a week before the workshop itself.

eLearning Overview of BCM
The e-learning module will be "Overview of BCM" and "Risk Analysis and Review".  This will be the first of the six sessions for the HRD claimable 3-day online course. Click the icon to find out more about the content of the eLearning module. New call-to-action

This will give them the necessary information and context to understand some of the key concepts involved in Risk Analysis and Review prior to the actual online workshop session itself.

It is important to note that because the workshop is a 1-time group event.  Hence, it is important that participants lock this event in their calendars. No repeat workshop will be conducted for absent participants and there is a possibility that HRD Corp will not approve the course subsidy if the participant is absent.

A trainee is deemed to have completed the training programme if he had followed at least 75% of them.

What should participants do after the online workshop?

Participants are encouraged to:

  1. Complete their RAR templates with their BU information based on the learning after the online workshop, if possible, in consultation with the head of the business unit
  2. Review of the content of submission via email by the Facilitator as an assignment
  3. Submit the finalized "reviewed" business unit or BU's RAR template submission via upload to BCM Institute's eCampus portal
  4. Sent all submitted RAR from all the BUs to the Organisation BCM Coordinator for final reporting

2. Consultation [Online]

After the online workshop, participants will have a designated period to complete and submit the templates to their appointed BCM project manager or Organisation BCM Coordinator, who will consolidate the templates and send the first draft of the report to the facilitator.

A complimentary 1-hour consultation session will be arranged for Organisation BCM Coordinator to go through the compiled templates/ report with the consultant.

Organisation BCM CoordinatorWhat Preparation does the Organisation BCM Coordinator need to do prior to the consultation session:
  1. Get the "RAR report to management" template from the facilitator.  This is optional.
  2. Get all BU BCM Coordinators to submit their completed RAR template after attending the instructor's online session. The BU BCM Coordinators are expected to make edits to their business unit or BU's RAR template after the online workshop session.
  3. Prior to the consultation session, comments will be sent via email to the designated facilitator.
  4. Attend the consultation session at the appointed time (on Zoom)
  5. Process the templates from all BU and write a report for submission to the organisation's management.
  6. Re-edit the compiled RAR report and prepare to present the revised RAR report for management presentation.

3. Public HRD Claimable Course

The strength of this program is the continuity of BCM knowledge should there be a replacement for the officer responsible for BCM.  If you are attending a public course, this course is similar to the previous session for the BCM-310 (Course code) and it is titled "Assessing Risk and Business Impact Requirements"

Once this session is completed, the BU BCM Coordinators are now ready to attend the next "Business Impact Analysis" workshop to be held in session 1B.

New call-to-actionIf you have a new business unit BCM coordinator and is in need of the knowledge for "Risk Analysis and Review", this colleague of yours can attend a similar public course in Malaysia.  This course is BCM-310 (Course code).
