RAR Project Presentation to Management

This blog is a detailed elaboration of what essentially makes a good RA presentation. It focuses on:

  • Objectives
  • Content
  • Considerations and pitfalls
  • Quality Enhancement

Content of Presentation

When the Organization BCM Coordinator is preparing the RA report, it is important to carefully consider:

  • What is being presented?
  • How to use graphs to support this information?
  • Is the graphical data consistent with the text data in the RA report?

Key Considerations

During the presentation, these factors should be considered:

  • Check and verify that the number of slides and duration of the presentation is sufficient as these vary across organizations.
  • Include graphs to supplement the report.
  • Make sure that the presentation is consistent with the final written report.
  • Provide full copies of the written report to the target audience prior to meeting (whenever it is possible).

Objectives

The presentation objectives include the following:

  • Obtain specific approvals.
  • Obtain management recognition of risks, threats, and vulnerabilities.
  • Obtain Executive Management approval for control issues.
  • Maintain Executive Management involvement.
  • Move forward to conduct Business Impact Analysis.

Pitfalls

The Organization BCM Coordinator should be aware of the following pitfalls:

  • Resist the temptation in the presentation to share what a good job the BC Team had done on the RA.
  • Allocate too much time on the RA methodology and how well the team performed.
  • Do not rush the presentation.
  • Understand how much time is allocated and how it may be shortened during the actual presentation.
  • Identify the critical presentation slides to be presented if the Organization BCM Coordinator is asked to reduce the time of presentation.

Quality Enhancements

The characteristic of a quality presentation should include:

  • Achieve the defined objectives
  • Agree upon time limit
  • Meet the needs of decision makers
  • Adhere to organization presentation standards
  • Solicit informal pre-acceptance with the business units
