A Practitioner’s Guide to the “Plan” Phase into practical application.

The appendices provide practical tools, templates, assessment structures, and implementation aids to support the Plan Phase of the Operational Resilience Planning Methodology.

They are designed to help practitioners translate the concepts described in Chapters 1 to 8 into structured organisational activities.

The appendices may be adapted to reflect:

• organisational size

• industry;
  

• regulatory requirements;
  

• risk profile;
  

• existing governance;
  

• existing resilience capabilities; and
  

• internal terminology.
  

The templates should therefore be treated as practical starting points rather than rigid requirements.

The key objective is consistency, traceability, and evidence-based implementation.

Business Service

An outcome or service delivered by the organisation to customers, users, markets, or other stakeholders.

Capability

The organisation's ability to perform a specific activity using appropriate people, processes, technology, governance, and resources.

Critical Business Service

A business service whose disruption could cause unacceptable harm to customers, stakeholders, markets, or the organisation.

Gap

The difference between the current and required future-state capability.

Governance

The structures, responsibilities, decision rights, oversight, reporting, and accountability used to direct and control operational resilience.

Impact Tolerance

The maximum level of disruption that can be tolerated for a critical business service before unacceptable harm occurs.

Key Performance Indicator

A measure of progress or effectiveness.

Key Risk Indicator

A measure that indicates changing risk exposure.

Maturity

The degree to which a capability is defined, implemented, integrated, measured, and continuously improved.

Operational Resilience

The ability to anticipate, prepare for, respond to, recover from, and adapt to operational disruption while continuing to deliver critical business services.

Risk Appetite

The amount and type of risk an organisation is willing to accept in pursuit of its objectives.

Risk Tolerance

The acceptable variation around a risk appetite or risk objective.

Scenario Testing

The use of severe but plausible disruption scenarios to evaluate whether resilience capabilities are sufficient.

Target State

The future level of capability the organisation intends or is required to achieve.
