1. What was performed?

  • Conducted Pandemic Flu Drill at XYZ Newater Plant

3. How was it carried out?

  • Planned with operation staff on the flow of events in a pandemic flu outbreak. Segregation of workforce into 2 teams to practice isolation of teams and minimize contact between the 2 work teams.
    • Simulate outbreak as per Ministry of Health’s DORSCON code Amber/ Red.
    • Practised temperature taking, scanning and visitor/staff logging-in procedures to familiarise staff with the requirements in an actual outbreak.
    • Conducted actual exercise with the injection of ‘scenario’ where the staff was taken in during work and had to be isolated and sent to the hospital.
    • Decontamination of a workplace to reduce the likelihood of cross-infection was done.

  • Planned for work-from-home situations whereby staff does not have office access and needs to complete Critical Business Functions (CBF) to ensure operations are minimally impacted. Conducted workshops to prepare staff, formulated templates to document the inputs from the exercise.
    • Conducted 2 days of work-from-home exercise to identify and rectify any issues/ unknown dependencies. Issues identified and resolved as a follow-up to improve the plans.

  • Conducted an independent review on the Pandemic Flu and BCP Test for DEF District Heating and Cooling Plants as an auditor.
    • Run through their plans, actual exercise and provided inputs to fine-tune existing plans so as to enhance and make existing plans more robust and realistic.

  • Spear-headed setting up of call-tree for UVW Waste-to-Energy Plant.
    • Conducted a simulated exercise to activate the call tree to notify and mobilise staff on potential incidents at the plant.
    • Familiarise staff with the call protocols and escalation procedures. Rectify any short-coming from exercise

  • The BCDR drill must be conducted annually to test the alternate site and backup data centre's readiness and enable the staff (especially the new joiner) to get more familiar with the BCDR plan.

  • An exercise completion report is prepared for every test or exercise to report the result and findings to the management.
    • Our team would also arrange follow-up meetings with other working members to continuously discuss the issues and recommendations identified from the drill to improve the plan.
    • Finally, the result would be summarized and reported to management in the BCP Committee meetings.
