Dr Irwan Shahrani

Dr Irwan has more than 20 years of working experience. He has strong business acumen and a firm governance background. He has worked mainly in risk management, compliance, business continuity management, project management, fraud management, and knowledge management. He has been involved in various industries, namely banking and finance, Information Technology, toll and highway, agriculture, logistics, manufacturing, and pharmaceuticals.  

Dr Irwan is experienced in setting up functions such as Risk Management, Business Continuity Management and Crisis Management. Appointed project secretariat for a national project collaboration between Bank Simpanan Nasional (BSN) and the Central Bank of Malaysia, known as the Ejen Bank Berdaftar (EBB). He also helped BSN win the Malaysia GreenTech Award (MGA) in 2013 for the same green banking initiative. 

He is currently a Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCI) from the Business Continuity Institute (BCI) in the UK, having passed the exam with merit in 2020. Three months after passing the exam, he was accepted as a Member of the Business Continuity Institute (MBCI) in the UK.

He holds a PhD in Business Administration, majoring in Knowledge Management (KM), which he assimilates into his works when establishing the numerous policies and procedures, conducting training, testing and workshops on RM, BCM, DR, CM and Compliance. His thesis on how Islamic Work Ethics (IWE) promotes knowledge sharing when dealing with negative human emotions such as anger and shame in the workplace helps him better interact with people when conducting the workshop. He also uses gamification (Snake & Ladder for Risk / Business Continuity Manager), a technique in the KM field, to keep the participants continuously immersed and engaged throughout his workshop. Using some of the KM techniques, he helps organisations resolve issues by identifying the root cause of a problem using analysis techniques such as the Pareto analysis, Five (5) Y diagram and fishbone diagram to develop possible mitigation actions.
