Description of Module [Day] 4 Course 

The Module [Day] 4 Summary Exercise is the culmination of the DRP-5000 IT Disaster Recovery Expert Implementer course, where participants must put all their learning from the past three days into practice. 

 

This module emphasizes linking with the business units, especially the applications deployed by them. It also discusses assembling the DR Plan and ensuring that it works.

Co-ordinate and Link Up with Business Units
  • Understand disaster declaration coordination and requirement
  • Prepare and set up the Command Centre
  • Gain insights into the linkages between disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity (BC) activities
  • Discuss disaster response timings and sequence of activities

Assemble the DR Plan Together

Once the information and procedures are ready, it is time to assemble the DR plan.

  • Adopt a set of documentation guidelines and standards when developing the DR plan.
  • Understand the DR Life Cycle and its plan content for the 6 ‘Rs’
  • Evaluate and select DR plan automation

Manage Communications During Disaster

The ability to communicate is one of the most critical determinants of whether a disaster is managed well.

  • Understand the goals of communication during a disaster
  • Initiate and escalate the crisis communication process
  • Have a clear understanding of the roles of DR teams regarding communication
  • Learn about crisis communication good practices

Ensure Your DR Plan Works

After the DR plan is developed, testing and exercising it is essential.

  • Understand the purpose and objectives of IT DR testing and exercising
  • Identify types of IT DR tests
  • Set test criteria, test frequency and life cycle
  • Understand the principles and constraints of test design
  • Develop guidelines for conducting a test

Manage DR Program

This session focuses on sustainably maintaining the DR programme.

  • Understand DR programme management
  • Chart DR plan administration and maintenance activities
  • Identify factors to trigger updates
  • Manage and monitor the frequency of updates
  • Ensure continual training and awareness

Deliverables

The Summary aims to synthesise the learning from the past three modules and show the relationships between the phases leading up to the development and testing of the IT disaster recovery plan and subsequently to the sustainable maintenance and upkeep of the IT DR plan and programme.

  • Develop and evaluate the effectiveness of the IT DR plan and procedures.
  • Identify and design simple to complex IT DR tests and exercises.
  • Manage the IT DR initiatives as a continuous improvement program.
